If you’re looking at purchasing a used vehicle, a PPSR check provides you with essential details pertaining to the vehicle’s history and offers insights into information such as if a vehicle has any outstanding finance owing, if it’s been reported as stolen in the past, if it was written off, and so on.
The check exists to help protect the consumer in making any purchasing decisions surrounding used vehicles. It’s a check that we highly recommend you undertake to ensure the vehicle you’re purchasing is worth your time and money.
Running a PPSR check through MotorRegistry is a very simple process. All you have to do is enter the vehicle’s rego (licence plate) or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), select the state it’s currently registered in, and click ‘Get Report’. You’ll be redirected to a page that provides preliminary vehicle details to ensure you’re looking at the right vehicle. From there, you can then request a Basic or Comprehensive Vehicle History Report.
Once you’ve paid for the report, you’ll receive it within a matter of minutes to your designated email address. The report will include the full PPSR certificate for that vehicle.
A basic PPSR vehicle check, which will be delivered to you in the form of PPSR certificate, will typically include the following information regarding a vehicle:
This shows whether the vehicle is currently under finance or is being used as security for a loan. If there is a secured interest, the certificate will typically list the secured party (e.g. a bank or finance company), the type of security interest, and the registration date of the interest. If no security interests apply, the certificate will note, “No security interests recorded.”
This indicates whether the vehicle has ever been damaged severely enough to be added to the WOVR (Written-Off Vehicle Register) and the type of damage (e.g. collision, flood damage, storm damage, etc.). In the event the vehicle was able to be repaired and re-registered after being written off, this will be detailed in the PPSR certificate. If the vehicle has never been written off, it will note, “Not listed as written off.”
This confirms whether the vehicle has been reported as stolen in any Australian state or territory, with the information being sourced from police databases nationally. If the vehicle was never stolen or reported stolen, the certificate will note, “Not listed as stolen.”
The certificate will also verify the identifiers you entered for your check, confirming details such as the VIN, chassis number, engine number (if available), and the vehicle type (car, motorcycle, caravan, etc.). This helps you ensure you’re cross-checking the right vehicle.
As part of the vehicle check, the PPSR certificate will note the exact timestamp of when the search was conducted. The certificate will also include explanations of different terms (such as explaining written off statuses) and any limitations that apply to the data included in the certificate.
Yes, if you conduct a basic PPSR check via the Australian government’s official PPSR website, the cost is $2. However, it’s important to note that while a standalone PPSR check can provide you with relevant details related to debt or other factors such as if the vehicle was recorded as stolen or written off, there are still limitations to the information you’ll receive.
By investing in a more comprehensive vehicle history check, such as those provided at MotorRegistry, you will gain access to more information from other registers and reputable third party sources that provide the most complete picture of a vehicle’s history. This includes vehicle insurance claims, full recall lookups, engine number and odometer assessments, model-specific issues, market valuation estimates, and more.
No matter when you request a PPSR certificate as part of a vehicle history check through MotorRegistry, the data included in the certificate will be the most up-to-date information that currently exists within the Personal Properties Securities Register database. You would get the exact same data if you requested the certificate through the PPSR website itself.
The difference at MotorRegistry is that we couple the findings from the PPSR certificate with information from other renowned Australian databases and third-party sources so that you get a much more complete picture of a vehicle’s history.
Yes. We currently offer two types of vehicle history reports - these are the Basic Vehicle History Report and the Comprehensive Vehicle History Report. Whichever one you opt for, an official PPSR certificate will be included.
While a standalone PPSR check can give you a solid foundation of a vehicle’s history, it doesn’t cover everything. It’s these gaps in information that MotorRegistry accounts for.
We provide the most comprehensive vehicle history reports in the country by combining data from government registers such as the PPSR and National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS), as well as several third party sources, including RedBook, and our own internal sources.
By collating all of this information into one feature-complete report, you’ll have access to the data that matters in helping you make the right vehicle purchasing decision.
