Comprehensive Car History Report

At MotorRegistry, two types of car history reports are available for purchase: these are the Basic Vehicle History Report and the Comprehensive Vehicle History Report.

With the Basic Report, you’ll be provided with the PPSR certificate and some basic vehicle history information. With the Comprehensive Report, the information provided includes:

• The PPSR certificate - the official government document

• Stolen check

• Written-off checks and finance checks

• Registration details

• Full recall lookup, including status (e.g. the recall was complete or not)

• Common, car model-specific issues, including guidance on how to identify these issues (e.g. checking internals, externals, drive train, electrics, etc.)

• Engine number and odometer assessment

• Valuation estimate

• Theft risk rating

• Free pre-purchase inspection guide

Other new upcoming features that are being introduced to our History Reports (as part of our Comprehensive offering) include:

• Maintenance history: a comprehensive breakdown of the car’s maintenance history, including verified service, repair and warranty records; details such as reported issues, work performed on the car, cost to the consumer (including warranty costs), replaced car parts, and technician/mechanic notes.

• Odometer history: more comprehensive, verified odometer readings sourced through inspection and repair data from certified mechanics, specialists, and annual safety checks.

• Damage/insurance claims and quote history: this includes information on prior vehicle insurance claims, repair quotes, and incident records.

You should receive your Car History Report to your email address immediately after sending through payment. On occasion, databases such as the PPSR undergo scheduled or unscheduled maintenance. If you submit your Car History Report request during these times, you will receive an interim report immediately with critical vehicle information to your email address, and then the full report will be delivered as soon as maintenance on the databases is complete.

Most key information you need to know about a used vehicle will be covered in a Car History Report. As with any other product or piece of property, however, some information may be absent if it was simply never provided to the respective register, third-party, or government database. For example, recall information on certain vehicles can vary depending on the manufacturer of the vehicle.

However, while there can be occurrences of this, the vast majority of Car History Reports will provide enough key data and insights to help consumers make well-informed purchasing decisions.

The data MotorRegistry utilises comes from several official government registers/databases, as well as reputable third-party sources and our own internal sources. When combined, they result in a comprehensive breakdown of a car’s history, consolidating as much information as possible into one report.

Government registers, such as the PPSR, are regularly updated and will provide clear date stamps of a vehicle’s history, such as its year of manufacture, registration expiration, and other key notifications such as if the vehicle was written-off or stolen.

Our aim is to cross-check all available data that exists for a car so that consumers are provided with timely information when receiving a vehicle history record. While the recency of data taken from government and third-party sources is dependent on their own update cadence, you can rest assured you’re getting the most current data available at the time of purchase.

We utilise several national government registers and databases, such as the PPSR and NEVDIS, and reputable national third-party sources (e.g. RedBook) to collate a comprehensive detailing of a vehicle’s history so that you get the most accurate information to help you make the right purchasing decision.

At MotorRegistry, ensuring we provide consumers with an accurate Vehicle History Report is critical. While we don’t provide free reports, when you do a car search you will be provided with a few preliminary details, such as confirming its rego number, state of registration, a portion of its VIN, and the name of the car model. This provides you with enough information to confirm that you’re looking at the right vehicle.

This allows you to move forward with confidence when requesting a Basic or Comprehensive Vehicle History Report.

While other countries have well-established comprehensive Car History Report providers, many providers in Australia are far more limited in the information they can provide to consumers who are in the market for a used vehicle.
