Get a service history report

A vehicle service history report brings together the service records that can be located for a car from dealerships, workshops and logbooks, in date order, with the odometer reading at each service where recorded. It helps show how well the car has been maintained. A MotorRegistry Comprehensive Plus report includes every service record we hold and can locate for the vehicle.

What a MotorRegistry report shows

  • Dated service and repair records from dealerships and workshops Comprehensive Plus
  • Odometer reading recorded at each service, where captured Comprehensive Plus
  • What was done at each service, and in many cases what it cost Comprehensive Plus
  • A button to request logbook photos from the seller, added to the history as owner-provided Comprehensive Plus
  • Common problems for the model and a custom pre-purchase inspection guide Comprehensive & Plus

Every MotorRegistry report includes the official PPSR certificate plus finance owing, written-off, stolen and registration checks. See every tier side by side on the compare page.

What a service history report shows

You can't tell a well-maintained car from a neglected one by walking around it. The logbook helps, but logbooks get lost, and stamps on their own are hard to verify.

A Comprehensive Plus report pulls together the service and maintenance records we can find for the vehicle from dealerships and workshops, in one timeline. For each entry you'll see:

  • The date of the service or repair.
  • The odometer reading at the time, where it was recorded.
  • What was done, and in many cases what it cost.

A gap in the timeline isn't proof that a service was missed, because not every workshop's records can be located. It does tell you what to ask the seller about, and what paperwork to ask to see.

What a PPSR check doesn't include

A PPSR certificate covers finance owing, written-off and stolen status and registration details. It contains no service or maintenance records, and neither do most vehicle history checks. Service history is one of the reasons buyers choose a MotorRegistry Comprehensive Plus report over a certificate on its own.

Filling the gaps

Service records aren't available for every vehicle. We check what exists for your specific car before offering the Comprehensive Plus upgrade, and only offer it when records are available.

Every report has a button to request service history from the seller. They get a link by email or text, photograph the logbook, receipts or windscreen service stickers on their phone, and we read the entries into the vehicle's history. Those entries are marked as owner-provided, separate from the records we source independently. Owners can add their records the same way before they sell.

If you want to check a logbook against the records, our vehicle logbook check page explains what to look for.

Why service history matters

  • Engine and transmission life. Oil changes, coolant and transmission services on schedule make a large difference to how long the expensive parts last.
  • Warranty. On newer cars, missed or undocumented services can affect a new-car warranty claim.
  • Big-ticket items. The history shows whether distance-based work such as timing belt replacement has been done, or is coming up soon at your expense.
  • Resale value. A car with a documented history is easier to sell and usually sells for more.

Vehicle Service History Report FAQ

How can I check a car's service history in Australia?

Start with the logbook and receipts, and then check them against independent records. A MotorRegistry Comprehensive Plus report includes the service and maintenance records we can find for the vehicle, from dealerships and workshops, in date order. You can also call the dealership or workshop named in the logbook and ask them to confirm the service.

What does full service history mean?

It means the car has been serviced at every interval set by the manufacturer, by time or distance, whichever comes first, and there's a record of each service. A logbook with stamps at regular intervals and matching invoices is the usual evidence.

Does a PPSR check include service history?

No. A PPSR certificate covers finance owing, written-off and stolen status and registration details. It contains no service or maintenance records.

What if there are no service records for the car?

Service records aren't available for every vehicle. We check what exists for your specific car before offering the Comprehensive Plus upgrade, and only offer it when records are available. Every report also has a button to request service history from the seller, who can photograph the logbook or receipts on their phone and add them to the vehicle's history.

Does missing service history matter?

It can. Skipped services can shorten engine and transmission life and may affect the new-car warranty on newer vehicles. Gaps don't always mean neglect, but they're worth asking about and factoring into the price.
